Whether you’ve attended BronyCon in the past as working press or this is your first time, all working press must register and submit the necessary information and verifications for approval. Your application and verification materials must be emailed by June 30th, 2016. Applications sent after this date will not be considered. There will be NO onsite press registration. For information on the necessary verifications, please review our section titled Verification Material Requirements.

Once you have submitted your application and verification materials please allow eight to ten weeks for processing and review. You will be notified via email if you are approved or declined. If you do not receive a response from BronyCon within eight to ten weeks, please contact [email protected] with your outlet name and date your application and verification materials were submitted.

Press Qualifications

Each year BronyCon welcomes members of the press from all over the world. Although requirements vary, BronyCon will consider applications from press in the comic book, book publishing, animation, film, television, gaming, and other pop culture related industries. All press applicants must be currently employed or on assignment by the outlet they are representing and only one applicant needs to apply for everyone on your team with the required verification materials.

In general, press applicants fall into one of four categories: print, online, broadcast, and podcast / blog. Documentary crews may qualify for complimentary press badges. To meet the press application requirements, please find your category on the following pages and submit the appropriate verification materials.

Verification Material Requirements

Print Press (Periodicals, Newspapers, Weeklies and Magazines)

If you are applying as print press, you must be currently employed by the outlet you are representing and you are required to email the following:

  • At least TWO entertainment related bylined articles or photos published within the last 12 months. Please email actual examples with your name highlighted.

OR

  • A copy of your company’s current masthead, which clearly displays your name and editorial title.

Online Press / Blog / Photographer / Videographer (Print & Online)

If you are applying as online press, blog, photographer or videographer, you must be currently employed with / hired by the outlet you are representing and you are required to email the following:

  • At least TWO entertainment related bylined articles, blog posts, photos and/or videos published within the last 12 months. Please email the links of the entire articles, photos, and/or videos with your name highlighted.

AND

  • A signed letter (on company/website letterhead) from the editor stating your assignment and request to cover BronyCon on their behalf.

YouTube / Podcast (Podcast and YouTube)

If you are applying as YouTube or podcast press staff you must be currently employed with the outlet you are representing and you are required to submit the following:

  • At least TWO entertainment related podcasts or YouTube videos from an established outlet within the last 12 months. Please email the links of the podcast/YouTube videos crediting your name.

OR

  • A link to the outlet’s list of archives showing activity from the last 18 months along with a link to your own contributions. We consider the frequency and consistency of your site’s updates along with the frequency of your own contributions.

Broadcast / Radio Press (Radio and Television)

If you are applying as broadcast press staff you must be currently employed with the outlet you are representing and you are required to submit the following:

  • A signed assignment letter (on company letterhead) from the station’s editor stating your assignment and request to cover BronyCon on their behalf.

Documentary

Script, outline, treatment and/or web page of proposed documentary. Please be specific as to what you hope to record. Additionally, include crew size and equipment.

REMINDER: Documentary crews may quality for complimentary press badges. One person from your team will submit an application and if approved, you will be given select number of badges for you and your crew. Please follow the submission guidelines for outlets/companies.

Important Verification Materials Information

  • If the verification materials outlined above are not included with your completed application, your application will not be considered.
  • If multiple staff members from your outlet/company are applying, all materials must be sent in ONE email.
  • Please provide links when supplying bylines articles, photos, videos, podcasts and/or blog entries.
  • Faxed verification materials will NOT be accepted.

Additional Information

As always, the issuance of a press badge is at the sole discretion of BronyCon. Please be respectful of all our attendees. A BronyCon press badge is provided as a courtesy to cover the event. BronyCon does not tolerate coverage that includes stunt type events, ambush interviewing or any sort of action that could make any of our attendees feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Terms and Conditions

A BronyCon press badge is good for entry to all the events held at BronyCon. The BronyCon press badge, however, does not allow for early entry into Blank Canvas’s Marketplace, Crusaders’ Clubhouse, Cosplay Lounge and exclusive paid workshops. Please keep in mind that press registration is a courtesy and BronyCon press badge is non-transferable. You may not transfer or sell your BronyCon press badge. Unfortunately, a press badge does not allow for plus ones, guests, or child badges. A press badge has no monetary value and you are not entitled to a refund of any amount for your complimentary press badge. Duplicate badges of any type are not allowed.

Members of the press that want to videotape, film, and/or record any matter that will be used for commercial purposes (non-news) must first obtain written permission from BronyCon as well as permission of the panel participants. Posting a panel in its entirety is not permitted at BronyCon.
